  • patience

Every Tutor should have patience to teach, Because different types of students will be there. Some students will understand the concept quickly, some may be understand it slowly. Tutor will teach the concept until the student understands it for that tutor should have patience. Good tutors only have that patience.
  • Understanding

Tutor should understands the student capability. There are different ways of teaching for different types of persons. So to choose the teaching method for a student he need to understand the student mentality. So understanding also important for a Good Tutor.
  • Support

Tutor should support his student, If student failed one time tutor should find where mistake has happened. Then suggest the student to improve himself in those certain things.

  • Quality
Look for ratings, testimonials and tutor qualifications. How long has she/he been tutoring? Does he/she really know how to teach? What are his/her areas of expertise?

  • Memory-friendly
This is self-explanatory. Whether we like it or not, memory plays a huge part in learning. Ask for specific hand-outs or worksheets. Look for tutors that work for your learning style: auditory, visual, a combination of all.

  • Simple and practical
your tutor must make the subject interesting and should show you how it is applicable to real life. You will not learn if he/she fails to relate the material to you or if she/he uses jargon or specialized language.

  • Adaptability

With individual tutoring, you must adapt yourself to every case. Since there is no pre-determined formula, the tutor’s approach must depend on the student’s need and the particular difficulties he or she experiences. Throughout the sessions, the tutor will have to re-evaluate the student’s objectives as they progress. It is therefore important not to be afraid of creating a new action plan that will be better adapted to each new situation.
  • Energy

In order to establish a good relationship, the tutor must be an energetic person, someone with a lot of enthusiasm with respect to human interactions. This interest will certainly have a positive impact on a child discouraged by school and his or her bad grades. Through his or her good mood and motivation, the tutor will be a model for success, inciting the child to imply himself or herself more and do better at school.
  • Openness

Listening to the needs of the child and demonstrating openness will help to better understand a student’s situation. Inquiring about the context (academic situation, environment at school, at home, etc.) allows the adoption of a more appropriate follow-up and the better use of work methods. The tutor’s involvement and presence offers support for a student in trouble and will make the student feel valued. The tutor’s openness must demonstrate their accessibility and involvement. A good tutor must be curious by and interested in the student they are helping.
  • Humility

Even though we think we have most of the subject matter on the tips of our fingers, it may happen that some concepts escape us. It’s normal, we can’t know everything, and we must be able to recognize this. It is in fact preferable to tell the student that we don’t know the answer rather than guess it. In other situations, where the personalities don’t mix or when the sessions are not producing the desired affect, it is important to take a step back and admit that we may not be the right person to help this student.
  • Expertise
Having a deep understanding of the material is basics to being a tutor, but having the skills to teach it is even more important. Tutors should be confident in their knowledge of the subjects and be able to teach students the concepts in a way they can easily understand.
  • Patience
Not all students are same, some might grasp concepts easily while others struggle to understand the simplest of concepts, and it’s the later students who will require one-on-one tutoring classes, therefore, the tutors need to be very patient to teach such students.
  • Approachable
Students should not hesitate to approach the tutor, and this is only possible when tutors demonstrate openness such as being active listeners. Not only listening to the student’s needs will help you make better plan but also make your more approachable when are having troubles with studies.
  • Passion
Great tutors are passionate about teaching and making a difference to student’s life. You need to love what you teach. A great tutor will always encourage their students. Let the students know their success is important for you and show interest in their teaching.
